Celebrating 150 Years of Heritage
Sharpness 150 is a programme of community events running throughout 2024 to celebrate 150 years since the opening of Sharpness New Dock on 25th November 1874 – an event which transformed local lives and industry.
A variety of accessible activities will be available for all those who lives have been touched by Sharpness Dock and those who want to discover its history. Sharpness 150 will also develop an online community resource to provide a lasting legacy, focusing on Sharpness Stories from the heart of the village and its working port.
Sharpness 150 is volunteer led by the local community, charities, organisations and visitor attractions. We thank the Gloucestershire Heritage Hub for their support, with acknowledgement to all local historians. We are also grateful for everyone’s interest and contributions to make Sharpness 150 a success, including: Berkeley Castle, Berkeley Town Council, Canal & River Trust, Cattle Country, Edward Jenner Museum, Gloucestershire Archives, Gloucestershire Local History Association, Hamfallow and Hinton Parish Councils, Sharpness Dock Company, Sharpness Sports and Social Club, Stroud District Council, Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club (SVTEC), the Vale of Berkeley Railway Charitable Trust (VoBR) and the Vindicatrix Association.
