Our year of Sharpness 150 events got off to a fine start, with an estimated 200 – 300 people attending our Launch Event at Sharpness Sports and Social Club on March 30th. There was also widespread coverage on local media, helping to generate more interest in Sharpness, its people and history.

A highlight for many visitors was the Sharpness 150 timeline, a comprehensive display of pivotal moments in Sharpness prior to and after the opening of the New

Dock in 1874. With a wealth of information to absorb, there have been numerous requests to see it again, so we plan to have it on show at as many of our remaining S150 events as possible.

Also especially enjoyed by many were the talks given by local historians, so again by

popular demand we’ll be staging a new set of talks at our Sharpness 150 Finale. Taking place on Saturday October 26 th it will reprise several of the displays and attractions that made our Launch Event so successful – but with fresh speakers and content, so you’re guaranteed to see and experience something new.

Before that happens, we also have our Maritime Enthusiasts Day and Summer Sea Shanty Festival, bringing extra variety, historical insights and entertainment. Don’t forget, we’d still love to hear and record your Sharpness stories across the generations. If you have family tales and reminiscences to share, whether you lived or worked in Sharpness or simply remember visiting, please get in touch by emailing us at S150@vobr.org.uk
